Plaza Premium Unveils Its New International Lounge in Vancouver

Plaza Premium Lounge is on a roll, unveiling a newly renovated lounge at Vancouver International Airport just months after similar news at its flagship location in Hong Kong. The Plaza Premium Lounge at Vancouver's Pier D is now Canada's largest pay-per-use lounge open to the public at over 6,800 square feet. Any traveler with an international departure (except most flights to the United States) may access this lounge regardless of airline or service class. Plaza Premium also operates another lounge for flights to the US in the transborder concourse at YVR.

The renovated Plaza Premium Lounge can be found in Pier D, just past the security checkpoint for international departures.

Hong Kong designer Kinney Chan of Kinney Chan & Associates assisted with this remodel as well as the one in Hong Kong, indicating that Plaza Premium is implementing a consistent collection of refreshed luxury amenities at many of its locations, including marble flooring and New Zealand wool carpeting. However, the lounge entrance retains definite design features of the Pacific Northwest, including natural stone columns that flank its entrance.

Guests have a view of the airport tarmac from the large windows in the dining area.

Customers of the new international departures lounge have access to three separate seating areas that feature sofas, chairs, and Plaza Premium Lounge's signature chandeliers - not to mention ample electrical sockets and WiFi internet access at every seat. It's a great place to stop off whether you need to catch up on work or just curl up with a book or tablet computer.

Several distinct seating areas allow guests to find a comfortable environment to relax before their flight.

A separate VIP room is also available for up to 17 guests who would appreciate additional privacy. Business travelers will have the extra space needed to meet and collaborate on the road. But large families or tour groups could also use the space to socialize in a more convenient setting than the typical departure gate.

Groups, business partners, or anyone requiring additional privacy can reserve the VIP room.

But besides giving travelers a place to sit, one of the greatest values provided by airport lounges is that they provide them with an opportunity to refresh themselves, either at the end of a long journey or during a connection along the way. Several showers are included in the renovated lounge along with a full set of amenities, and can be followed by a visit to one of the three nap rooms - each of which feature private single beds. (Additional charges apply for using these facilities.) These special services are unique to this lounge and not found anywhere else in the terminal.

Showers and private nap rooms allow guests to refresh themselves without clearing security to visit an airport hotel.

And like many of its other lounges, there are plenty of opportunities to grab a bite to eat. Plaza Premium Lounge is known for its signature Hong Kong-style fish ball noodle soup, which it serves at a dedicated noodle bar, prepared fresh by staff. Besides the noodle bar, there are also a wide variety of hot and cold meal choices available, plus a salad bar, throughout the day. An emphasis is placed on healthy diets with fresh ingredients.

Be sure to try Plaza Premium's signature fish ball noodle soup.

More familiar options are available, too, including Panini sandwiches.

In fact, there are two separate dining areas. A smaller area near the lounge entrance lets you taunt passersby who can glance in at the food and other amenities. But the main dining area provides sweeping views of the airport tarmac, along with plenty of small and large tables to suit the size of your party.

A separate, smaller buffet area is located near the lounge entrance.

The dining room includes large tables for socializing with other guests.

For those who need something stiff, yes, there is a bar that serves cocktails, beer, and wine. You'll also have the option of specialty coffees prepared by a trained barista, just in case you needed another excuse to partake in the local coffee culture prevalent throughout the Pacific Northwest.

With three seating areas, two dining areas, and several additional spaces for privacy and relaxation spread over 6,800 square feet, the renovated Plaza Premium Lounge at Vancouver International is a great destination for travelers. Stop here before your trip or while you connect onward to your final destination.
